Butlins Shoreline Hotel

If you think Butlins is synonymous with chalet accommodation in holiday camps, think again. Britain's favourite holiday company has opened its first ever Resort hotel on the beach front at Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

Appropriately named Shoreline, the £10m hotel resembles a luxury cruise liner and the architects needed an external wall insulation system that seamlessly follows the building's curves and would withstand the hard marine environment. The StoTherm Classic system, coated with the StoSilco render finish provided the perfect solution.

Shawn Lambert, senior architect at Hampshire-based PWP Architects specified the StoTherm Classic system for its energy efficient thermal performance and revolutionary high elasticity and crack resistance.

Said Shawn: "The hotel features many curved walls and the StoTherm system moulded round the exterior to achieve the seamless look we wanted. Despite the curved structure, installation was very fast as the insulation is bonded to a single skin exterior wall with no cavity required for extra insulation. This also allowed us to maximise the internal space in the hotel, an important factor for Butlins.

"Because of the hotel's seafront location, Sto's technical department advised using StoSilco finishing render, which is extremely weather resistant and will require little maintenance to retain its original appearance."

The StoTherm Classic facade system is equally suited to contemporary and classic architectural styles. StoSilco is available in a variety of textures, five different grain sizes and can be tinted in a select 465 colours from the StoColor System.

The brilliant white specified for Butlins Shoreline hotel will ensure that it stands out on the seafront for many years to come.
