Sto EWI applied to 135 homes on the Craylands and Fryerns housing estates in Basildon

The installation of the StxTherm Protect system forms part of a £2.2 million project to regenerate the borough’s Craylands and Fryerns housing estates.

StxTherm Protect is an extremely rugged and BBA-certified external wall insulation system that delivers outstanding thermal protection, and is designed to meet strict fire protection requirements. It combines non-combustible mineral-fibre insulation board with a mineralic reinforcing coat, glass-fibre reinforcing mesh and high-performance decorative finishes, and it was applied to the properties using a combination of Sto’s mechanical fixings and Multibond adhesive.

Sto’s technical team made various site visits to assess the project, which is being delivered by Basildon Borough Council. Sto worked closely with the authorized Sto applicator, Inbuild Solutions (from their Southern-based operation in Basildon) to create an appropriate specification for the properties.

“The Sto solution has proved to be very effective on this project,” adds Mike Easdon, Managing Director at Inbuild Solutions. “We have extensive experience in this type of insulation project and it would be hard to find an alternative system that would outperform the StxTherm Protect.”

StxTherm Protect is compatible with various finish options including dry dash render, brick slips or, as in this case, Stomix Silkotex HD. This rugged silicone resin render provides high levels of water repellence, and offers superior protection against weathering, damp and algae growth, making it ideal for buildings exposed to harsh weather conditions.

When completed, the Basildon Borough Council regeneration scheme will see the upgraded properties joined by 994 new homes.
