Acrylic renders have been developed by Sto for over fifty years. We have constantly been refining and improving formulations and have the largest colour range of any render manufacturer.
In their most basic form, acrylic renders contain aggregates (limestone, marble), binders (synthetic resins), fillers (Titanium Dioxide), pigments and enhancers such as Silicone emulsions.
Correct formulation of these constituents will give the tough, clean, weather resistant coatings you come to expect from Sto. If something is cheaper, there is normally a reason. For example, reduced titanium dioxide content leads to a more open textured surface, which is more porous and duller in colour. Have a look at the image of two comparible products on the right to see if you agree. The finish on the right is a Sto finish.
Sto uses the highest grade pigments available to the manufacturing industry. Colour choice is a key component in the aesthetic appeal of a project, long term. Fading facades soon look tired and devalued. Our products are tested both naturally and artificially in one of the industry's most stringent fade resistance tests.
Water repellency can be enhanced by the addition of silicone emulsions or oil. There is no industry standard on what appropriate levels should be. Some of our competitors claim to have silicone renders, with just one sixtieth of the silicone content of Sto silicone resin renders. These will in no way perform to the same standard.
